As he announces his retirement from the Hyne group after an extraordinary 50 years with the company, the peak state body for Queensland’s forest and timber industry has paid tribute to highly respected Board member James Hyne, whose 16 years of dedicated service as a Timber Queensland Director has strengthened the industry.
Timber Queensland Chair Ross Lakin said the commitment James demonstrated over five decades with Hyne was reflected equally in his efforts to champion the needs and priorities of the forest and timber industry during his tenure on Timber Queensland’s Board of Directors.
“James’s guidance, insight and deep understanding of our industry have made him a wise and trusted voice representing members across the sector,” Mr Lakin said.
“During his terms as Chair and Deputy Chair of Timber Queensland there have been many challenging periods, including resource security and market pressures, COVID and labour shortages, but his steady approach and willingness to put in the time have helped keep Timber Queensland focused and deliver for industry,” he said.
Aware of his upcoming retirement, the Board acknowledged his service and dedication at its most recent meeting in February.
Timber Queensland CEO Mick Stephens has praised James for his passion and long-term commitment to the interests of the industry across Queensland.
“In his role as a Director and more broadly, James contributed to many positive developments from the establishment of the Parliamentary Friends of the Queensland Forest and Timber Industry network through to training and skills initiatives, and the formation and governance of the Queensland regional forestry hubs, including his role as Chair of the South East and Central Queensland forestry hub”.
“More recently, he has been actively involved in Board deliberations into the Queensland Future Timber Plan, a major initiative being co-designed and implemented with the Queensland Government.”
“The Hyne name is widely recognised in the Queensland timber industry with a rich family history, and James is testimony to this enduring legacy which continues on through the industry he has helped shape and grow into the future,” Mr Stephens said.
