     Timber Grade Compliance

At the point of manufacture or on the building site, we can check (and certify where necessary) timber's compliance with relevant Standards or specifications.

On major projects we can check the timber quality prior to its use - to reduce problems during and after construction.

    Minimum Charge: $500

     Timber Advisory Service

Advice can be provided on all aspects of timber selection, use, finishing and maintenance. This service is supported by a wide range of technical publications. Service hours are from 8.00am to 5.00pm Monday to Friday.

     Timber Identification

If you need confirmation of a species identity, we can check common species for you.

Minimum Charge: $60 (for the more unusual species, a detailed analysis will be necessary and therefore higher costs may be involved.)

     Timber Moisture Content

For many applications, the use of seasoned timber is essential for good in-service performance. TQL can test the moisture content of samples of the timber to be used, to check that it is seasoned correctly using the most reliable oven-dry method.

Minimum Charge: $95 (up to five samples)

     On-site Inspections & Reports

If you have a timber problem on a building site, and need a solution, TQL has an inspection service which assesses the situation and provides a written report which addresses issues such as compliance with recommended practices, possible causes of the problem and can outline what others have done in rectifying similar problems.

Minimum Charge: $660 (inspection and full report - Brisbane locations)

     Insect Identification

We can identify which insect (including termites) is attacking a particular piece of timber and provide advice on its effect on the timber and eradication procedures (where appropriate). Samples of the insect and timber are necessary.

    Minimum Charge: $60

     Timber Design & Specification

For building projects, we can provide project specific advice on timber species selection, good detailing, specification writing, etc. Our technical staff can visit your design office to discuss your project needs.

Should you require a more extensive project consultancy service, this can be provided on a fee for service basis. Call us for a quotation.

     Design & Construction Workshops

Workshops can be conducted by request for designers, builders, etc. to improve their knowledge and skills in timber design and construction.

    Examples of workshop programs are:

    • Multi-Residential Timber Framed Construction (MRTFC)
    • Timber Framing Code (AS1684)
    • Timber Specification
    • Technical Timber Update

     Forest Management Advice

Advice can be provided on a broad range of forest management, regulatory and market related issues including: plantation and private forest capability and regulation, forest certification and associated chain of custody, and carbon trading opportunities.

     Timber Take-Offs

When you are unsure of the amount of timber required to start building Timber Queensland offers a timber take-off service for simple structures (i.e. small decks and pergolas up to 12m2 in size).

    Minimum Charge: $115
