WIND SPEED DESIGNATION - GET IT RIGHT!
The plans say "Wind Speed = 50 m/s".
Is it a working stress design (WSD) wind speed or an ultimate limit state design (LSD) gust wind speed?
What does the truss detailer "plug-in" to the truss design program?
It is no longer acceptable to use 'WSD' designations.
To avoid any potential for confusion or error, plans and specifications should now only refer to LSD designations or actual wind speeds as follows:
|
Wind Classification |
Ulimate Limit State Wind Speed (m/s) |
|
N1 |
34 |
|
N2 |
40 |
|
N3 |
50 |
|
N4 |
61 |
|
C1 |
50 |
|
C2 |
61 |
|
C3 |
74 |
Wind speeds in between the 'standard' designations, should only be given as ultimate limit state wind speeds:- i.e. "Ultimate Limit State Wind Speed = 56 m/s".
