Timber Queensland, with approval from the Speaker of the Legislative Assembly of Queensland is establishing a ‘Parliamentary Friends of the Queensland Forest and Timber Industry’ network. This network will act as a focal point for building greater awareness and support for the state’s forest and timber industry within Parliament.

Our industry supports 10,000 direct jobs and a further 15,000 indirect jobs across the state with an annual turnover of over $3 billion per annum. It is also a renewable and carbon friendly industry that can generate multiple economic, social and environmental benefits with significant opportunities for growth.

Accordingly, it is imperative that a bi-partisan approach is taken from both the ALP and LNP with respect to promoting these opportunities and developing sound forest industry policy.  Timber Queensland is pleased that Bruce Saunders, Member for Maryborough (ALP) and Tony Perrett, Member for Gympie (LNP) will be joint co-chairs of the network

Peak industry body Timber Queensland plans to support the network via one to two key events each year and to regularly update network members of industry developments and policy issues.

The inaugural event will be held on Wednesday 27 February 2019 in the Premiers Hall, Parliament House.  We strongly encourage members of Queensland's forest and timber industry to attend the event to showcase the strength and diversity of the entire industry supply chain to both metropolitan and regional sitting Members of Parliment.
